Common questions

Is the resume builder really free? Where is the catch?

There is no catch and no premium tier for building or downloading. The builder runs entirely in your browser, so serving it costs us nothing. Most resume sites let you build for free and then charge $15–30 per month at the PDF step — we think that paywall is the product's failure, not its business model.

Do I need an account to save my resume?

No. Your draft autosaves to your browser's local storage as you type — close the tab, come back next week, and it is still there on the same device and browser. Nothing is uploaded, which also means clearing your browser data clears the draft; use 'Copy plain text' or the PDF as a backup.

How does the PDF download work?

'Download PDF' opens your browser's native print dialog pointed at the resume sheet only — choose 'Save as PDF' as the destination. The result is a selectable text-layer PDF (not an image), which most parsers can read; image-based PDFs from some builders cannot. We can't guarantee how a particular employer's system handles any file, but a text-layer PDF from a single-column template is the lowest-risk output.

Which template is safest for applicant tracking systems?

Classic and Compact are single-column — the lowest-risk structure for older or stricter parsers, and Classic is the default. Modern is a visually richer two-column layout; its main column comes first in the text order so most parsers still read your career in sequence, but two-column designs are inherently less reliable with some systems. If a posting or portal looks old or strict, choose Classic.

Can I start from an example for my job title?

Yes — the examples index has twelve complete, ATS-checked resumes. Each one links straight into the builder with its content pre-filled; replace the details with your own and run the checker against the posting before you send it.

Finished building? Run it through the ATS checker against the job posting before you apply.
